#neversettle

Years ago, I was talking with a friend about desperately needing to resign. I was on a super dysfunctional team that was eating at my well being a little more each day. I had an upcoming business trip to Italy a month later though — my first time leaving North America and I could barely contain my excitement. “I can’t go to Italy and quit as soon as I get back, but if I quit now, I don’t get to go to Italy.” I felt stuck and sad. She gently reminded me that I would definitely get to Italy one day, whether it was for this work trip or some other reason. Italy, while incredible, was not a reason to stay... We stay in dysfunctional relationships of all kinds for so many reasons. At work it often comes down to believing we’ll never make this kind of money somewhere else, worrying that no one will ever hire us, feeling comfort in at least knowing how to navigate the crazy where we are; mental models based in fear and scarcity. I originally drew this as an Instagram post on dating, but it’s fitting here too. This also applies to our jobs... While Valentine’s Day is usually about our love for others, let’s make this a year where it’s also about loving ourselves. You are magic. You deserve magic in kind. I believe in your ability to cultivate abundance... to get to your very own Italy.
