Contract For Inclusion

If we’re ever going to change the face of leadership in our companies, we have to rethink the way we assign and/or offer development opportunities. Many organizations align these experiences based solely on an employee’s level or title. In certain companies or job families, that practice is full of unintended consequences, like perpetuating harmful power structures. As Leadership Development practitioners, we have the opportunity to contract for inclusion... to ensure that we’re extending coveted opportunities to grow to those who don’t currently have a seat at the table... so we can help make one for them. Have an exciting offering coming up? Strongly encourage, or even require, leaders to reach back and pull forward more junior team members who may not have been selected otherwise... so all voices can be in the room. Changing the face of leadership will require changing how we engage, and changing what we allow. What will you do with your power today?
